Elevate plays an important role in giving back to the local community on several levels.
Senior members of staff sit on the Board of Governors for the local Adult College, several local schools, and the Technical Skills Academy in Barking.
Training and job opportunities:
Elevate offers apprenticeships to young local people to help them gain the skills and experience they need to build careers in local government and administration. We try to provide as many jobs as we can once apprenticeships are completed.
Elevate is an Executive Member of the Barking and Dagenham Chamber of Commerce, and provides the Chair to the local joint Skills, Jobs and Enterprise Board. We also provide support to the local business awards. Wherever possible adhere to a 'Trade Local' strategy by obtaining services from samll and medium sized businesses in the area. One good example of this is where we asked Wecreatemedia (a BEC tenant) to design the new BEC brochure and flyers.
Sport and leisure:
We sponsor the local rugby club under 13s.
Health and wellbeing:
We have also very successfully bridged the IT gap between the Council and the local NHS, enabling effective systems sharing for the first time, giving local practitioners proper access to records wherever they are based.
We try to be as 'green' as possible. For example, by developing digital solutions to enable people to access critical Council services we reduce travel and paper usage.
